How to set up a link in bio page

The tool matters less than the decisions: which five links, in what order, on which domain, and how you will know what worked. This guide walks through them in the order you will meet them.

Answer in brief. Pick a tool from the ranking, put at most six links on the page with the one you care about first, put a short link on your own domain in front of anything you will print, and check the per-link numbers once a week. ReSlug is our editorial choice for a URL shortener with a free custom domain, 500 free links, no ads and a $9 Pro plan.

1. Decide what the page is for

Write one sentence: "When someone taps my bio link I want them to ____." Watch a video, join a newsletter, buy a thing, book a call. That sentence decides the first link and the tool. Content: any tool. Newsletter: a tool with email capture, such as Linktree, Beacons or Komi. Buying: Beacons or Stan. Booking: Stan or Taplink. Mostly sharing links in posts and printing QR codes: ReSlug.

2. Choose and claim the tool

Sign up, claim the same handle you use on social, and set a profile photo and a one-line description that matches your other profiles. Consistency is what makes the page look like yours rather than the tool's. If you want your own domain, buy it now; see link in bio with a custom domain for which tools allow it and the cheapest plan.

3. Pick the links and the order

4. Put short links in front of anything printed or reused

If the bio URL goes on a business card, a slide, a poster or a QR code, do not print the bio tool's address. Create a short link on a domain you own, for example go.yourname.com/bio, and point it at the page. When you change tools, you change the short link's destination and every printed code keeps working. A free ReSlug account gives you the domain, the links and the QR codes for this; the hub ranks the alternatives under best URL shortener for QR codes.

5. Set up tracking before you share

Turn on whatever analytics the tool offers and check that per-link taps are visible, not just totals. If the tool supports it, add UTM tags to links that go to your own site so Google Analytics or your shop can attribute the visit. Note the retention window: 30 days means you must look monthly; a year means you can look back at a launch. See link in bio with analytics.

6. Update every profile the same day

Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest, Twitch, your email signature, your podcast description. Paste the same URL everywhere. If you used a short link in step four, this is the only time you will ever do this.

7. Review weekly, prune monthly

Once a week, look at the per-link taps and move the week's promotion into slot two. Once a month, remove any link under a few percent of taps. A shorter page with a clear first action beats a long one every time.

Questions & answers

How many links should a link in bio page have?

Four to six. Taps drop sharply after the third item. Put the single most important action first.

Should my link in bio be on my own domain?

If you print it or want to be able to change tools without changing every profile, yes, or at least put a short link on your own domain in front of it.

How do I track clicks on my link in bio?

Use the tool's per-link analytics and check the retention window. For visits to your own site, add UTM tags. ReSlug and Milkshake Pro keep a year of data; Linktree free keeps lifetime totals only.
